The Cooley Lodge, Peterswell is located just five miles from Gort and nine miles from Loughrea. Just nestled in the village of Peterswell Co. Galway. The pub has a long history in the community and is one of the oldest establishments in the country. It is famous for its association with Irish Music and the Late Joe Cooley and his brothers Seamus and Jack who also lived locally and performed in the Cooley Lodge many times, with Joe Cooley recording there in the 1960’s. Peterswell is also associated with WB Yeats who spent many summers in the nearby Thoor Ballylee and its believed John Wayne frequented there in 1952 while making the quiet man locally.
